Treble Rebels sings a wide range of music, mainly in the
English Anglican Choral Tradition. Meeting every Wednesday evening in term time,
from 6.30pm to 7.45pm, the choir is open to anyone aged 7 to 16 who
wants to sing.
What
do we do?
The Treble Rebels is attached to St.
Michael's & All Angels and sings there regularly. It's also available for weddings and other events, and
attends training days with the Royal School of
Church Music and even occasionally singing at
Cathedrals and Abbeys (our next such event is at Chichester Cathedral on March 29th).
We also have
regular social events and trips to places such as Paultons Park and Romsey Rapids.
What
does it cost?
The choir is totally free to attend. The costs of trips is kept to
a minimum (most about £5 - £10) and parents are advised well in
advance.
The choir leaders
The choir leaders are all experienced, and have fully enhanced CRB
disclosure police checks.
Our training programme
The choir is a full member of the Royal
School of Church Music, and follows its training programme
called "A
Voice for Life". The children will learn lots about music,
and earn various coloured medals as they progress.
What
should my children wear?
General : For practices we would ask your child to wear a Treble Rebel
polo or sweat shirt. These cost about £11 and are available to order at
the practice.
If they don't have a sweat shirt it's fine to come in their normal casual clothes. We do partake in musical games, etc., so
Sunday best is NOT recommended.
Choir robes : These
are used for
church services and are supplied by the choir free of charge. We do ask
parents to help out by giving them a wash occasionally. Robes are
expensive so they must be looked after.
Trips : Treble Rebel sweat shirts or polo shirts must
be worn for trips. It helps the helpers to see where everyone is! If
your child does not have one please ask a helper as there may be a
spare you could borrow.
Where and when do we meet?
Every
Wednesday in term time at St. Michael
& All Angel's Church, Bassett Avenue, from 6.30 until 7.45pm.
Practice starts at 6.30 sharp so be there at least 5 minutes beforehand
to get your music ready. If it's your first time
at the choir please come at least 10 minutes early to meet Colin and
the team.

for a map. Parents please come inside to collect your child so that we
can ensure that they are going home with the right parents - child
swapping is not allowed! Parents are most welcome to stay and watch any
choir practice. By the way, help from parents who stay on a regular basis is greatly appreciated.
Please see Colin for more details.
Any questions?
Please contact the choir
director, Colin. He is also available AFTER any choir practice to
answer any questions.
Would you like to sing?
We
always welcome
parents to come on trips with us, but if you would also like to sing, then
St. Michael's already has an experienced mixed choir (mainly adult
membership). The choir sings regularly at St. Michael's and also tours
Cathedrals and Abbeys, especially in the summer. Our most recent trips include Llandaff Cathedral, Romsey Abbey, Bath Abbey and
Winchester Cathedral. We are a friendly and sociable group, so
we are sure you will feel welcomed. If you would like to join, then speak to
Colin. You can find more details here.
